Avery Roxanne MillerickAvery Roxanne “Meep” Millerick dedicated her young life to serving others and strengthening her community. From an early age, she chose to give her time and her heart to making a difference in the lives of those around her, and the impact she left will continue to be felt for years to come.
Avery was the sibling of Ethan, a child born with congenital heart disease, and as a child she participated in the programs at Camp Taylor, a medically supervised summer camp for children with heart disease and their families. The support and joy she experienced there meant so much to her that she later returned as a volunteer serving as a sibling mentor, camp counselor, and activities assistant. In these roles, Avery gave back what had once been given to her by creating the same sense of safety, belonging, support and hope for other children walking a journey she knew all too well. She also offered compassion, understanding, love and encouragement to siblings of children with heart disease, guiding them through some of their most difficult times. Her love for competitive cheerleading extended beyond her own participation and love for the sport for over ten years. Avery volunteered as a junior cheer coach, passing down her skills, her passion, and her confidence to younger athletes who looked up to her. In her honor, a cheerleading scholarship has been established at Victorious Elite All-Stars ensuring that her spirit of encouragement and love for competitive cheer continues to uplift others and to provide opportunities for others who might not have access to the sport she so loved. Avery was born with a servant’s heart. She embodied the very best of humanity through her citizenship. She exemplified kindness, generosity, leadership, inclusivity and service to others. Though her life was far too short, her legacy is immeasurable. At just 19 years old, she had already touched countless lives and left behind a bright light that will never be dimmed. Avery was both silver shimmer and golden sunshine. May this scholarship be a reminder of Avery’s example that our communities grow stronger when we care for one another, when we give our time, and when we lead with compassion. “Never be so kind, you forget to be clever Never be so clever, you forget to be kind And if I didn't know better I'd think you were talking to me now If I didn't know better I'd think you were still around.” -Majorie by Taylor Swift |
The Avery Millerick Scholarship Fund
The Avery Millerick Scholarship Fund was created to honor Avery’s legacy by supporting athletes who embody the same values she lived by—good character, kindness, and a commitment to serving others. Each year, one to two deserving applicants will be selected to receive this award in recognition of their dedication to making a positive impact in their communities. Applications are due annually on April 11th, (Avery’s birthday) and must include a personal letter demonstrating how the applicant upholds these qualities in their daily life. Through this scholarship, we aim to celebrate Avery’s spirit and inspire future generations to continue her example of kindness and service.
